The center of Matyóland is Mezőkövesd. The Matyó got their name after King Matthias, a Hungarian king in the 15th century, who gave certain rights to the town of Mezőkövesd. The Matyó people are famous for the traditional, very colorful embroidery which was developed by a local drawing artist, Bori Kisjankó.
Sights
Matyó Museum won the title of "Musum of The Year" in 2005. There is shown up the Matyó life, holidays and weekdays, the development of emroidery; folk art shop.. You can see the matyó "clean room", a doll and a painting exhibition here. You can be taken a photo of you in a traditional matyó costume among original matyó furniture.
Museum of Agricultural Machinery: This museum which can be found 200 m from Hadas town-district is one of the richest machinery museums round Europe. The author, Mr. János Hajdu Ráfis, presented a collection of about 250 powered and other agricultural machines and over a thousand hand implements in Mezőkövesd to state in 1979.
The old church of the town is a baroque roman catholic church from the 18th century, with a gothic chapel from the 14th century. Its frescos were painted by the famous matyó painter, István Takács who was born in Mezőkövesd. A new roman catholic church consecrated in 2001 is located in the Millenium Park, at the small lake of the town.. The Saints' Day and Procession of the church is very famous, this time people are dressed in their traditional clothes.

- Matyó homes, streets with the atmosphere of 19th-century country towns - also called "Hadas" district, meaning that people who used to live here inhabited the area in big family groups.In the ancient cottages local folk artists offer a view of what it is like to be "Matyó". The houses give home to embroiderers, a furniture painter, a glass cutter, a potter and for the children: a gingerbread maker, among other craftsmen.
Here is located the house of Bori Kisjankó, the most famous designer of matyó motives. You can find her personal things and furniture from that time in the house.
A Népi Művészetek Háza a Matyó Néptáncegyüttes otthona, míg a Táncpajta folklór rendezvények helyszíne. Szomszédjában található a Kisjankó Bori Emlékház ,a mintatervező eredeti bútoraival korhűen berendezve. A közeli Tulipános Hímzőműhellyel szemben kapott helyet a Játékház – Gyékényes Alkotóház. Mellette a nagy mesemondó, Gari Takács Margit Emlékházában népi hangszerkiállítást lehet megtekinteni.
Az üvegcsiszoló gémeskúttal szembeni műhelyét is szabadon lehet látogatni. Az 1817-ből származó Festőművész-Szövőház faragott kőablakai egyedülállóak a Hadasban. A vele szemben lévő Tűzzománcos Házban tűzzomác és pasztellkép kiállítás tekinthető meg. Innen nem messze Fehér Tibor népi iparművész a nádfedeles Fazekasházban készíti díjnyertes alkotásait.
